The Dedicated Aide will assist the teacher in promoting a healthy, positive, safe, stimulating and structured school environment for students. Will provide support to classroom teacher and students; assisting in developing, preparing and implementing strategies within plans for personal outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the student to participate in lessons, projects, and assessments;
  • Creating a safe environment for children with sensory integration disorder and other special needs by accommodating both their developmental and learning requirements;
  • Using positive affect and communication techniques that are sensitive to the child's needs;
  • A deep commitment to a child's developmental and education progress;
  • Regularly observing students and taking anecdotal notes to inform planning in the arrangement of small groups, classroom set up, integrations of students' interests in learning activities, and subsequent assessments;
  • Supporting the classroom teacher in monitoring student progress;
  • Using a variety of instructional materials, resources, and experiences to enrich student learning;
  • Providing educational opportunities that reflects an understanding of students' unique sensory and information processing profiles;
  • Using appropriate techniques and strategies that promote and enhance the student's creative problem-solving, and evaluative thinking;
  • Working with families to support the progress of individual students;
  • Valuing the importance of play and providing opportunities for child-initiated explorations in the classroom throughout the day;
  • Using effective, positive, respectful interpersonal communication skills;
  • Establishing positive relationships with colleagues, students, families and the community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual;

  • Demonstrated communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to engage the interest of school‐age children;
  • Teaching experience in a public or private school, preferably in an urban setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with parents;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member;
  • Patience, flexibility, and a willingness to take risks;
  • Consistently reflects on her/his own teaching practices;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with linguistically and ethnically diverse student populations, and children with developmental differences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and eagerness to learn;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the well-being and success of all students.

    Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience working with students with behavior problems.
  • 48 college credits in Child Development, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Child Development, Special Education, or a related field, preferred.
  • Experience in behavior management preferred
